Six met on Eagle, all set for the Cruise,
Where shall we go? Okay let’s choose.
We don’t fancy East and the winds from the West,
Soon we agreed ‘cross the Channel was best.
The Braye pilot guide showed a tight tidal gate,
So working it back we slipped lines at eight.
Through the Needles then South we sailed through the night,
“there’s a ship from the left…and one from the right”.
We sighted the land, the entrance we found
Picked up a mooring and were all safe and sound.
Lunch was served next, then ashore for a scrub
Into Saint Anne’s for a drink and some grub!
Next day the sun shone and we went for a stroll
Some fancied a swim, “come on, it’s not cold”
Two others however preferred moules and wine
“You go ahead, we’ll both be just fine”!
Supper on board and early to bed
A four o’clock start the skipper had said.
We crept off our mooring in the dark and the rain
And sailed on our way, full Genoa and Main.
Royal Clarence before dark and safe in our berth
“Let’s celebrate our trip for all we are worth”.
We drank to good fortune and great time we’d had
Tomorrow it’s over and that’s a bit sad.
Wootton Creek for a drink, Osborne Bay for a snack
“anchors away” it’s time to head back.
Put Eagle to bed and say thanks and goodbyes
We’ve had a great trip, but how the time flies!
