It has been a busy year for Eagle and some general maintenance is required…
As she ages, we will endeavour to keep her in the best possible shape that we can. Trying to ensure that maintenance and repair costs are kept low without compromising on safety.
Last year, amongst many other things, we upgraded our rope clutches from Rutgerson to Spinlock, which has been received well by those who have used them. The spray hood windows were replaced. A new holding tank was fitted. The Ships compass has been recalibrated and, most notably, the Engine was replaced! This caused downtime in May when it was changed but has since been very reliable, as expected.
Going forward, Eagle has recently had her mast removed while work is being carried out on re-rigging and possible rewiring. The foresail has also been taken to Banks for repairs to the sacrificial panel. Lifejackets have gone off for their annual checking, and fire extinguishers serviced.
Eagle is not out for her first charter until the 13th March, during the time that we have before this date, the boat will need to be deep cleaned by you fabulous members to keep her in the condition we would all like to sail her in.
Items that require attention.
This is not an all-inclusive list: –
• All four winches need servicing
• The heads tap needs a service, as the cold-water side does not work
• There is a saloon hatch hinge that needs re-attaching
• The cooker needs a deep clean
• The wheel needs some stitching
• The upholstery needs a deep clean if anyone has one of those magical washer hoovers
• Deck gel repairs
• The new anchor windlass needs fitting
• Anchor chain remarking
• Check and redo anti slip on windows
• The decks need a jolly good scrubbing
• The teak also needs scrubbing and sealing
• A really good clean around all the hatch seals as the grease build up can cause leaking (which has caused cupboard damage in the past when skippers haven’t realised this)
• The spray hood needs a soapy soft scrub along with the sail bag and covers
• Sail fitting after rigging change
• Warps and lines need soaking to clean the salt off
• Curtains need taking off and washing
• General interior cupboard/floor clean
We need volunteers to help with these activities. There will be working parties organised by our bosun Glenn however members are very welcome to go down to the boat and crack on with the cleaning and repairs that need doing. Please contact Glenn before doing so, his details are below:
